Privacy policy
What SharedClipboard stores, what stays in your browser, and who processes it. What you share is encrypted, so we can’t read it.
In short
- What you share is encrypted in your browser. We can’t read it, and the key never reaches our server.
- Nothing you share is stored on our server. Text and files go straight between your devices and stay only in your browsers.
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking cookies. Visits are counted with Plausible, which doesn’t use cookies.
What our server store
- Clipboard entries. One small entry per text or file, encrypted in your browser: its name, type and size, never its content. They’re kept until you delete them or clear the clipboard.
- Devices in a clipboard. A random id, a hashed device token, the device’s public key, and its name as you see it in the devices list (for example “Chrome on Mac”, or a name you gave it). The name is stored as plain text, so don’t put private details in it.
- Feedback. If you use the Feedback button: your message, your email address if you give one, the page you sent it from (clipboard addresses are hidden), your browser and country. It’s emailed to us and kept until we delete it.
- Pairing codes. Which clipboard a 6-digit code opens, for up to 10 minutes.
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider records requests (the address requested, time and approximate location, which can include your IP address) to run and protect the service. These are kept for a few days. IP addresses are also used briefly to limit how many connections and codes one person can make per minute.
What stays in your browser
Clipboard keys, the names you give clipboards, this device’s identity, and encrypted copies of files are kept in your browser’s storage. We don’t use cookies. Forgetting a clipboard, or clearing your browser’s data for this site, deletes them from that browser.
Between devices
Files travel directly between connected devices. To set up that connection, devices learn each other’s IP address, and a Cloudflare server helps them find a route. When you share a clipboard with someone, their devices and yours can see each other’s IP addresses.
Visit statistics
We count page views and a few actions (such as “clipboard created” or “HEIC converted”) with Plausible Analytics, through our own domain. It uses no cookies and doesn’t store IP addresses; Plausible uses them only to count unique visitors per day. Clipboard addresses are replaced with “/r/_” before anything is sent, and never include the key.
Free tools
The free tools (HEIC converter, metadata remover and the others) run in your browser. Photos, videos, contacts, links and passwords you use with them aren’t uploaded.
Who processes data
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, the servers that store encrypted entries, and the connection helper.
- Plausible Insights OÜ (EU) counts visits.
Your rights
You can delete any item, clear a clipboard, or forget it on a device at any time, which removes clip from all browsers. Because there are no accounts, we can’t link clipboards to a person. To ask about your data, or to use your rights to access, correction or deletion, write to support@sharedclipboard.com. If you’re in the EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
SharedClipboard isn’t meant for children under 16.
Changes
