Only your devices can read what you share

Many sharing services encrypt files on their own servers, with keys they hold. SharedClipboard encrypts everything in your browser with AES-256-GCM before it is sent, and only your devices can decrypt it. Files go straight from one of your devices to another and are never stored on our servers.

Each clipboard has its own random key, kept in the part of its link after the “#” sign. Browsers never send that part to a website, so the key never reaches our servers.

This also means SharedClipboard can’t recover a clipboard if the link is lost on every device that had it.

A 6‑digit code only finds your clipboard and does not contain the key. Your other device asks you to allow the new one, then sends it the key encrypted for that device alone.

Both devices show the same 6‑digit safety number first. If someone tried to slip in their own key along the way, the numbers would not match. Allow only when they do, and only for a device you just entered the code on. Codes expire after 10 minutes.

A lost phone keeps whatever it already downloaded. When you remove it from another device, SharedClipboard gives your clipboard a new key and sends it only to the devices you kept.

The removed device can’t open anything added after that, even with the old link. Links and QR codes you shared before stop working, so share the new one if you need it.

To deliver your items, our servers see a few things that are not encrypted:

• that a clipboard exists, and its ID but not its key
• the name each device shows, like “Chrome on Mac”, and which devices belong to a clipboard
• when items are added, and roughly how large they are
• IP addresses, which our hosting provider uses to deliver the site and stop abuse

They never see your text, photos or files.

Cloud drives and email keep a copy of every file on their servers. SharedClipboard keeps files only in the browsers of your own devices, encrypted, and sends them straight from one device to another.

Clearing the clipboard deletes them on every device. A device that is offline deletes its copy the next time it opens the clipboard.

Text is stored on our servers, encrypted, until you delete it. Anything left deletes itself after 7 days. Our hosting provider may keep encrypted backups for a short time, and they can’t be read without your key.

SharedClipboard has no accounts or ads, and clipboard pages never appear in search. Anyone with your link can open your clipboard, so keep it to your own devices.

We count visits with Plausible, which uses no cookies and doesn’t follow you across sites. Clipboard addresses are removed before anything is sent, so it only sees that a clipboard page was opened, never which one.
