How to open a VCF file
- Add the file. Drop the .vcf file on the box above, or click Choose file. Add several and they’re joined into one list.
- Look through your contacts. Every contact shows with its numbers, email addresses and notes. Search by name, number or email.
- Save it the way you need. Download CSV for Excel, one .vcf with everyone, or each contact as its own .vcf. Or send the file to your phone.
What is a VCF file?
VCF (vCard) is the standard format for contacts. iPhone, Android, Google Contacts, Outlook and iCloud all export and import it, so it’s the usual way to move contacts between them.
One file can hold one contact or thousands. It’s plain text, so it can also be opened in a text editor, but it’s hard to read that way.
Move contacts between phones with a VCF file
- Export: on Android, Contacts, Fix & manage, Export to file. On iPhone, Contacts, Lists, long-press All Contacts, Export. On iCloud.com or Google Contacts, select contacts and export as vCard.
- Send the file to the other phone, for example with SharedClipboard.
- Import: on iPhone, tap the file in Files or Safari and choose Add All Contacts. On Android, Contacts, Fix & manage, Import from file.
VCF to CSV and Excel
Excel can’t open .vcf files. The CSV from this page has one row per contact with name, company, phone numbers, emails, address and notes, in the column names Google Contacts uses, which Outlook and Excel read too. Accents and other alphabets stay correct in Excel.
Outlook on Windows often shows only the first contact of a file with many. Import the CSV into Outlook instead.
Private by design
Contacts are other people’s details too. Everything happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, so this works the same with the internet switched off once the page has loaded.
