How to make a Wi-Fi QR code
- Enter your network name and password. Type them exactly as they are, since both are case sensitive. The QR code updates as you type.
- Check the security type. Almost every home router uses WPA2 or WPA3, which is the default here. Choose None only for an open network without a password.
- Save or print it. Download the code as PNG or SVG, or print a card with the network name to keep near your router.
How to scan a Wi-Fi QR code
- iPhone and iPad: open the Camera app, point it at the code and tap the Join network banner.
- Android: open the Camera app or Google Lens and point it at the code. On many phones the Wi-Fi settings also have a scan button next to Add network.
- Laptops can’t join by QR code, but you can send the password to your laptop and paste it.
Where to find your Wi-Fi password
- On the router: if nobody changed it, the password is on a sticker on the back or bottom.
- Windows 11: Settings, Network & internet, Wi-Fi, Manage known networks. Pick your network and click View next to View Wi-Fi security key.
- Mac: System Settings, Wi-Fi, Advanced. Click the three dots next to your network and choose Copy Password.
- iPhone: Settings, Wi-Fi, tap the i next to your network, then tap Password.
- Android: Settings, Network & internet, Wi-Fi. Tap your network, then Share to see its QR code and password.
